mercedes-benz x-class

Mercedes-Benz has expanded its already extensive commercial vehicle range with the new Mercedes-Benz X-Class ute/pick-up.

Officially unveiled this morning, the new offering is essentially a Nissan Navara underneath, though Mercedes-Benz tell us their version has all the classical characteristics of a real Mercedes.

The Mercedes-Benz X-Class will land in Australia early in 2018 and will boast an up to 3,500kg towing capacity.

Power comes from a choice of four engines:

A six-speed manual transmission will come as standard with a seven-speed auto an optional extra.

Mercedes-Benz tell us the X-Class will deliver the same driving enjoyment as a passenger car, this is thanks to the wide track, comfort-tuned spring and damping system and the utes rear coil spring suspension (as per Navara).

Off-road work is covered by the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system with low-range.

The X-Class will also be offered with an optional diff lock and a permanent all-wheel drive system will be available from mid-2018.

Mercedes-Benz is claiming a 600mm wading depth for the ute and up to 221mm of ground clearance.

But is the ute work or comfort focussed?

Well, Mercedes-Benz tell us the X-Class will be offered across three model grades suit different lifestyles and work environments:

No word yet on Australian pricing, however in Germany the X-Class is priced from 38,000 Euro ($55,000).
