Fiat Ducato caught up in exhaust system recall

Owners of some Fiat Ducato vans sold in Australia can expect a letter in the mail regarding a recall of their vehicle.

The recall is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and affects a total of 700 Fiat Ducato vans.

The recall notice says the vans being recalled are fitted with M38/M40 transmissions with the issue being that the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) pipe may break due to a potential non-conformity.

What are the hazards?

If the pipe breaks, there is a risk that exhaust gases may escape into the vehicle engine bay, rather than being contained within the exhaust system.

This may also result in a reduction of engine power, causing a lack of drivability in some instances.

What should affected owners do?

FCA Australia will notify owners of affected vehicles who can then schedule a service booking with their nearest authorised Fiat Professional dealer.

The dealer will inspect the EGR pipe and determine if a replacement EGR pipe is necessary.

The inspection/repair will be carried out at no cost to the owner.
