Toyota HiLux stays number one ute in April

The VFACTS sales data is in and once again the Toyota HiLux is the top-selling light commercial vehicle in Australia.

Perhaps the most interesting statistic out of the April numbers is a small dip in overall LCV sales in the month.

16,087 new utes and vans left dealerships in the month, a 5.9% reduction on the same month last year.

Toyota, with 5,114 total LCV sales in the month was again the dominant player, the Japanese brand finishing ahead overall of Ford (2,902), Holden (1,517) and Mitsubishi (1,334).

Across the first three months of the year Australian business, families and farmers picked up 73,467 LCVs, a total 5.6% up on the same period in 2017.

While the new Mercedes-Benz X-Class started life in Australia on a positive note with just under 330 sales.
