The Volkswagen Amarok has won a respected tow car award in the United Kingdom.
The 2019 Caravan and Motorhome Club Towcar of the Year awards have been announced and it was the Volkswagen offering that topped the pick-up category.
Volkswagen’s big-selling ute beat home a strong field of finalists.
Not surprisingly it was the V6-powered Amarok that claimed the top award.
Here’s what the judges had to say:
“Volkswagen’s impressive Amarok retained the ‘Pick-Up’ crown it won so convincingly last year.
“It’s well-deserved too – it put in a stonking performance, wowing the judges with its towing capabilities.
“Reversing a caravan onto a pitch will be aided by great all-round visibility, whilst a good interior is the icing on a very tasty cake!”
The Caravan and Motorhome Club put all the contenders through a rigorous testing regime at the Millbrook Proving Ground to “assess the vehicles’ ability to perform in all aspects of touring”.
Head of Marketing for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Sarah Cox, accepted the award.
“Amarok is an accomplished all-rounder, combining a powerful engine, premium interior, great on-road manners, impressive off-road capabilities – and of course great towing ability and caravanability.
“I’d like to thank the Caravan and Motorhome Club for this accolade: the Club’s rigorous testing is second to none, meaning customers can buy with absolute confidence.”
The Amarok wasn’t the only Volkswagen Group product to claim an award – Polo and Touareg also won their categories, while the Skoda Kodiaq was named best tow car in the ‘Caravan Weight 1500-1700kg’ class.
