Ford Transit grows in new generation
Ford says the new full-size Transit provides buyers with the perfect entry into the 2-tonne commercial vehicle arena.

Ford has continued its reshape of the brands commercial vehicle line-up with the arrival of the new Ford Transit range.

The most significant change is the overall size of the Transit; the new model is long wheelbase only and has a two-tonne payload, leaving buyers with the choice of the Transit Custom if they require something smaller.

Under the bonnet, all versions of the new Transit will be powered by a 2.2 litre turbo-diesel engine that produces 114kW and 385Nm and transmission choice is six-speed manual only. The model also features a new cabin design with increased storage areas and standard features including digital radio, cruise control and air-conditioning.

Emergency Assistance, a system that will automatically notify emergency services if the vehicle detects that it’s been in a crash is also standard.

Ford Transit range:

  • 350L LWB Van – Standard mid roof (Optional high roof)
  • 350E Jumbo Van – Single Rear Wheel – Extended Body – Standard high roof
  • 470E Jumbo Van – Dual Rear Wheel – Extended Body – Standard high roof
  • 470E Single Cab Chassis – Extended Frame – Standard low roof
  • 470E Double Cab Chassis – Extended Frame – Standard low roof
  • 410L 12 seat Bus – Standard mid roof

David Katic, Ford General Marketing Manager, says the new Transit and the Transit Custom give the brand a strong product in both segments of the commercial vehicle market.

“We’re seeing the commercial vehicle segment develop into two clearly defined groups of operators; those people who want a 1-tonne van like the Transit Custom and those who require a 2-tonne van like the Transit,”

“Ford now has both bases covered for those commercial customers who have distinct needs for a vehicle that not only delivers maximum load efficiencies but is comfortable, has a car-like driving environment inside but can handle the heavy duty expectations of our customers.”
