Some Ford Ranger utes with a manual transmission are being recalled to fix a possible issue with the gearshift cable.
The action mirrors a recall of the Ranger’s cousin, Mazda’s BT-50, that was confirmed earlier this week and the Ford action will also be overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

In total, around 5,000 Ford Ranger utes will be recalled, all were built between the 5th of June 2015 and the 12th of February.
The recall notice advises that the gearshift cable retaining clip may not be securely fastened, which could lead to the gearshift cables making contact with the rear driveshaft.
What are the hazards?
Continued contact between the gearshift cables and driveshaft can damage both components.
This could result in difficulty changing gears and/or loss of drive, posing an accident hazard.
At the time of release there have been no reported failures of the affected parts in Australia.
What should owners do?
Ford will write to owners of all affected vehicles asking them to contact their Ford authorised Dealership for inspection and rectification.
