The Toyota HiAce commuter bus has continued to be the top-selling Light Bus on the Australian market.
VFACTS data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) shows that the Toyota model managed to out-sell its rivals in the sub-20 seat category with 197 sales in June 2016.
Those 197 deliveries represent a market share of 84.9%, that number though being down significantly on the 286 deliveries achieved by the HiAce in the same month last year.
The Toyota model finished well ahead of its rivals, including:
- Renault Master Bus – 18
- Ford Transit Bus – 9
- Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Bus – 7
- LDV V80 Bus – 1
Overall sales in the month were down 20.8% and for the first six months of the year there’s been a 14.0% decline in local deliveries.
While in the two-horse race that is the Light Buses plus 20 seats category, Mitsubishi got one up over Toyota in June with the Mitsubishi Rosa Bus finding 22 customers, ahead of the Toyota Coaster’s 14 sales.
In that category, sales in June overall were down 16.3% and there’s been a 6.1% decline across the first half of the year.
