Owners of some Volkswagen Transporter vans sold in Australia can expect to be contacted regarding a recall of their vehicle(s).
Volkswagen Group Australia announced the recall of the first Volkswagen and Skoda vehicles to be recalled under the mandatory safety recall of certain vehicles with frontal Takata airbag inflators.
The mandatory safety recall, which was issued by the Australian Government earlier this year, requires that all affected Takata frontal airbags in Australia be replaced by the 31st of December 2020.
Volkswagen say they will subsequently be recalling affected vehicles in stages, the Transporter being among a number of Volkswagen and Skoda models being attended to first up.
The Volkswagen Transporter Takata airbag recall affects model years 2007-2015.
Owners of the vehicles will be contacted directly on an individual basis and the work will carried out free of charge.

Volkswagen also reassuring owns that no Volkswagen or Skoda vehicles imported to Australia are equipped with “Alpha” airbags, which have been identified as posing the highest safety risk of all the recalled Takata airbags.
