Window issue sees Mercedes-Benz Sprinter recalled

A safety recall of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter passenger vans has been initiated in the US after it was found the windows might separate during a crash, potentially injuring occupants.

There is no word yet on a recall of the Mercedes-Benz van in Australia, however we are monitoring the situation.

The US recall involves 2015-2016 model-year Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans and the recall is being overseen by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The NHTSA advising owners that the recalled vehicles may have had multiple layers of paint applied.

Consequently, during a crash, the windows may separate from the vehicle when the outer layer of paint peels from the layer below.

“If the windows separate from the vehicle in a crash, the occupants are at a greater risk of injury,” NHTSA said on its website.
