Volkswagen fits autonomous emergency braking as standard…
This is great news for van buyers, Volkswagen is now fitting autonomous emergency braking (AEB) as standard to the Volkswagen Caddy, Transporter and Crafter.
The announcement that the safety system would now be a standard fitment across the van range came from Volkswagen in Europe earlier today.
Volkswagen Australia has subsequently confirmed that all Caddy models sold locally already have the potentially lifesaving tech fitted as standard.
While the Crafter and selected Transporter variants will boast AEB from September.
Autonomous Emergency Braking Key Facts:
- Uses a radar to monitor the road and environment ahead
- If obstacle is detected the system warns driver with audible and visual signals
- System then applies the brakes automatically if driver doesn’t respond
- Automatically applies the brakes when obstacle detected at low speeds
Head of Marketing at Volkswagen Europe, Sarah Cox, says AEB is an effective way of keeping professional drivers safe on the roads.
“We’re really proud to be the first to fit AEB as standard to all our vans.
“This means safer vehicles on our roads, leading to fewer accidents, lower costs for operators and potentially fewer lives lost: what could be more important?”
