The UK economy has changed and it’s been commercial vehicles that have been assisting and driving much of that change, according to a study commissioned by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
The research was conducted in partnership with the Centre for Economic and Business Research (CEBR) and looked specifically at the relationship between the growth of the commercial vehicle industry and the actual use of those vehicles by businesses.
It was found that van dependent enterprises contributed £120 billion ($227 billion AUD) to the UK economy between 2009 and 2015. In that same period the number of registered commercial vehicles in the UK increased by 400%!
Those same vans travelled almost 102 billion km in 2014 alone.
Many of the commercial vehicles were found to have been purchased by small businesses and ‘start ups’ and Carl zu Dohna, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (UK), said it was important that these businesses get the right vehicle for the job.
“Commercial vehicles play a huge role in start-up and small businesses and we’re proud to supply the future drivers of British business with vehicles that help to deliver their goods and services.
“We admire the entrepreneurial minds of those in the UK who have continued to take risks and challenged traditional business industries in establishing exciting and forward-thinking new start-ups that use our vehicles.”
