Some owners of current series (UR) Mazda BT-50 utes are being asked to return their vehicle to have a possible side airbag issue rectified.
The recall is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and involves a total of just 277 Mazda BT-50s.

All of the vehicles being recalled were sold in Australia between the 29th of December 2016 and the 4th of April 2017.

The recall notice advises that airbag initiators within the side airbag modules may contain an incorrect chemical mixture.
What are the hazards?
This incorrect chemical mixture could cause the airbag inflator not to initiate, resulting in the side airbag not deploying in the event of a crash and increasing the risk of injury to occupants.
As of date of publication, there have been no reported cases in Australia.
What should affected Mazda BT-50 owners do?
Mazda Australia will contact all affected owners by mail asking them to present their vehicle to their preferred Mazda Dealer for repair at no charge.
