Toyota HiLux 4×4 reaches half million mark in Australia

Since its introduction to Australian shores in 1980, the Toyota HiLux 4×4 has sold 500,000 vehicles in those 36 years, clocking up the milestone recently.

Combined with sales of the HiLux 4×2 variant, 885,000 units have been purchased in total with an average to 39,000 utes sold each year for the past ten years.

This achievement is only confirmed by current sales figures with the Toyota HiLux leading as the best-selling vehicle so far this year.

Up to this point there have been 12,883 deliveries the HiLux, marginally ahead of stable mate the Toyota Corolla, with only 99 sales separating the two.

Executive Director of Sales and Marketing Tony Cramb says the popularity of Toyota HiLux comes down to its suitability to local conditions.

“The HiLux is renowned for its ability to thrive in Australia’s harshest conditions while also providing the space and features expected by a family.

“The latest-generation is the toughest, most refined model with SUV-like comfort and convenience.”
