A recall of Ford Territory and Ford Ranger vehicles has been initiated after a possible automatic transmission issue was identified.
In total, 10,520 vehicles sold in Australia are affected with the recall being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
Those affected Ford vehicles include:
- Ford Territory SZ vehicles built from the 19th of September 2011 to the 5th of February 2013.
- Ford Ranger PX vehicles built from the 5th of November 2011 to the 7th of November 2012.
The ACCC recall notice advises that there is a possibility that an intermittent Output Shaft Speed Sensor failure may result in an unintended downshift into first gear.
If the failure occurs while the vehicle is in use, it could cause an abrupt wheel speed reduction.
This may cause the rear tyres to slide or lock up until the vehicle speed slows, which could result in a loss of vehicle control.
Until the Safety Recall Service is completed it is recommended that the vehicle be driven with caution and at moderate speed.
Affected owners will be contacted by direct mail with instructions regarding inspections and repairs at Ford dealerships.
Further info is also available from authorised Ford dealers or Ford’s Customer Relationship Centre on 1800 503 672.

As an owner of one of these vehicles extremely disappointed that Ford has not made contact with me . It maybe Christmas time but as this is a major concern with safety an email to all owners should have been sent. It was only by luck I read it in the courier mail otherwise I would not have known about this problem.
I too am a ranger owner who wasnt notified either. My transmission actually needs to be totally replaced at a cost of more than $6000. Ford are trying their damnest to get me to pay for it.
How did you go with this transmission issue Alan?
