Toyota on top as Australian LCV sales continue to grow

The number of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) being delivered to Australian customers continues to grow.

VFACTS sales data shows that in June 2016 LCV sales increased 5.9% with 25,157 sales.

While across the first six months of the year LCV sales were up a mammoth 9.9% with 112,833 deliveries.

Interestingly, much of the 2016 LVC sales growth has come from business buyers (+27.8%) and rental fleets (+61.2%).

The rate of LCV purchases by private buyers was down 9.1% in June with 8,574 sales, across the first half of the year sales to private buyers dropped 14.6%.

June 2016 LCV Best-Selling Brands:

The Volkswagen Caddy is the dominant player in the light vans category. In June, the Volkswagen achieved 244 deliveries, that number ahead of the Renault Kangoo, Suzuki APV and Citroen Berlingo.

While the 2.5-3.5 tonne LCV market was dominated by two players – Toyota HiAce and Hyundai iLoad.

The Toyota offering led the pack with 739 sales (+31.9%), ahead of the Hyundai with 636 sales (+27.4%).

The Volkswagen Transporter with 282 deliveries finished ahead of the Renault Trafic (245), Ford Transit Custom (169) and Mercedes-Benz Vito (132).

The 2WD ute market was also taken out by Toyota with the HiLux (1,228), finishing in front of the Holden Colorado (608), Mazda BT-50 (602), Ford Ranger (601) and Isuzu D-MAX (555).

Finally, the Ford Ranger claimed the honours in the 4×4 pick-up category with 3,477 deliveries.

The Ford beat home arch-rival the HiLux with 3,385 deliveries, Mitsubishi Triton (2,533), Holden Colorado (2,302), Nissan Navara (1,319), Mazda BT-50 (1,315), Isuzu D-MAX (1,097) and Volkswagen Amarok (1,013).
