Mazda BT-50 and B Series utes recalled

Takata Airbag Recalls include Mazda B Series and BT-50 utes

Australian owners of the Mazda B Series and Mazda BT-50 utilities can expect to be contacted by Mazda Australia in regards to an airbag replacement recall.

The recall comes as part of the global Takata Airbag Recalls and affects Mazda utes sold between the 20th of January 2006 and the 23rd of December 2012.

The ACCC recall notice advising that the B Series vehicles affected carry a VIN within the range:

  • MM0UNY0W200415000 – MM0UNY0W200433739

And the BT-50 VIN range is:

  • MM0UNY0*300613091 – MM0UNY0*300694615
  • MM0UNY0*400804803 – MM0UNY0*400912110

What are the defects?

In the affected vehicles, continued exposure of the airbag inflator to high levels of absolute humidity may cause the front air bag inflator housing to rupture and deploy abnormally in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the frontal airbag.

What are the hazards?

An inflator rupture could result in metal fragments striking and potentially seriously injuring vehicle occupants.

Mazda Australia will progressively contact all affected customers by mail as soon as parts become available to present their vehicle to their preferred Mazda Dealer for the replacement of the Passenger Side airbag inflator at no charge.

Consumers who require further information should contact Mazda Customer Support on 1800 034 411.
