Mercedes-Benz and Ford vans nab five-star safety ratings

ANCAP has released the results of some recent test undertaken on some of Australia’s most popular commercial vehicles with Mercedes-Benz and Ford offerings awarded maximum safety scores.

Mercedes-Benz and Ford vans nab five-star safety ratingsThe crash test authority said the Mercedes-Benz V-Class and Valente both qualified for a five-star score, along with all variants of the Ford Transit Custom.

Dual ratings though were issued for the Mercedes-Benz Vito. Vito variants without the optional side (curtain) airbags will only come with a four-star ANCAP safety rating, tick the box for the additional airbags and you get the peace of mind of the maximum rating.

Though from July Mercedes-Benz will fit the curtain airbags as standard to the Vito range.

ANCAP CEO James Goodwin welcomed the results.

“These ratings provide both commercial and private buyers with greater choice in the van and people-mover categories,”

“For commercial buyers – many of whom are now required by their employers to have a vehicle with a five-star ANCAP safety rating – these ratings open the door to a number of new vehicle choices.”

Mr Goodwin praised Mercedes-Benz for adding the curtain airbags as a standard feature, while also congratulating Ford on the top scores.

“The Transit is a popular choice for large and small commercial operators such as tradespeople or couriers.

“Transit drivers will now have the knowledge their van offers the highest level of safety.”
