Mercedes-Benz vans to go electric

Mercedes-Benz confirms electric drive coming to all van models

The latest development on the electric vehicle revolution is confirmation from Mercedes-Benz that every model in its comprehensive van range will soon come with electric drive.

The Stuttgart-based manufacturer promising the eVito will come online (in Europe) from the second half of 2018.

While the other models in the range, including Sprinter, will follow, starting in 2019.

“We are convinced by the necessity of electric drive in our vans,” says Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

“The eVito is the starting point and will be followed by our new-generation Sprinter as well as the Citan.”

The Mercedes-Benz eVito will boast a drive range of around 150 kilometres, and will take around 6 hours to charge.

While power and torque outputs of 84kW/300Nm are being promised, along with a payload of more than 1,000kg.

And Mercedes-Benz Vans won’t just be supplying electric-drive vehicles, they say they will work with their customers, particularly fleet operators, on ensuring they have the correct charging infrastructure to capitalize on the electric-drive cans.

No word yet on the electric-drive Mercedes-Benz vans coming to Australia, though we will keep you updated as additional info comes to hand.
