A possible design fault has been identified in aftermarket seat covers fitting Toyota HiLux utes.

The recall of the custom-fit seat covers (seen above), sold in Australia under the Sperling and Tradies brand names, is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

Recalled Toyota HiLux Seat Cover Part numbers:

  • Toyota HiLux SR, SR5 Dual Cab Ute 2015+ (CT460)
  • Toyota HiLux 4dr Workmate Extra Cab Ute 2015+ (CT463)

The recall notice advises that the action affects made to order production as well as Tradies, Ready Made and Made to Order products.

All were sold in Australia between the 1st of January 2015 and the 6th of April 2018.

What are the defects?

The side panel of the seat cover may not come apart to allow the airbag to deploy correctly.

What are the hazards?

If the airbag does not deploy correctly, there is potential for injury of vehicle occupants.

What should owners of the suspect seat covers do?

Consumers should cease using this product immediately and contact Sperling Enterprises by phoning 02 9821 1444 (ext 909) Monday-Friday 9am-5pm AEST or by emailing recall@sperling.com.au to arrange a replacement car seat cover.
