New V6 diesel engine tips the scales for Amarok

We might call then utes, but everyone else calls vehicles like the Volkswagen Amarok ‘pick-ups’.

Either way, every ute/pick-up wants to take home the annual International Pick-Up of the Year Award and for 2018 the honour has been bestowed on the popular Volkswagen offering.

Announced at the Solutrans International Transport Show, the Volkswagen Amarok impressed a jury of 25 judges.

The last time the Amarok took out the award was back in 2010, this time around though the Volkswagen offering has a V6 engine on offer and that was the big difference.

Here’s what the judges had to say about the Volkswagen…

“The engine’s refinement and elasticity set a new standard in the segment.”

“Performance is not a challenge for the Volkswagen Amarok V6. Its 3-litre TDI engines, which range from 120 to 190kW (in Europe), fulfils the power and torque desires of all customer groups.”

Head of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Dr Eckhard Scholz, excepted the award.

“We are very grateful to have received the award and feel honoured by the decision of the international expert jury.

“With the new Amarok, we’ve once again listened to what customers want and been able to achieve more power, more torque and also better capability for deployment on any terrain.

“This is more than just pure luxury and lifestyle.”
