Continued dominance in the 4×2 ute sales race has kept the Toyota HiLux on top of the LCV sales charts in August.

The VFACTS data for August was released this afternoon and showed 19,165 light commercial vehicles (LCV) were delivered to Australian customers in the month.

That total was down 1.9% on the same month last year, however despite the slow down LCV sales still remain ahead by 2.3% compared to the first eight months of 2017.

Toyota was again the dominant player in the LCV market in August with 5,905 sales chewing up 30.8% of the total market.

The Japanese brand finishing ahead of Ford (3,694/19.3%), Mitsubishi (1,752/9.1%), Isuzu Ute (1,461/7.6%), Holden (1,443/7.5%) and Mazda (1,334/7.0%).

The big mover in the market in August though was LDV, the Chinese-owned brand delivering 457 LCVs in the month – a better than 300% improvement on the same month last year.

While Toyota’s HiAce remained Australia’s best-selling van in August.

Once again, demand for 4×2 utes was down with the market shrinking 15.9%, van and cab chassis offerings in the 2.5t to 3.5t category also fell back 6.7%.
