A recall of some 2018 Ford Ranger utes is underway after a potentially dangerous steering system fault was identified.
The recall is being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and affects certain Ford Everest SUVs as well.
There is no word yet on whether the Ranger’s sister, the Mazda BT-50 will also be recalled, we will keep you updated.

In total, around 175 Ford Ranger utes are involved, all were built between the 18th of March 2018 and the 11th of April 2018.
The recall notice advising that in certain affected vehicles, the intermediate steering shaft weld may not meet required specifications, which may cause the steering column to detach from the steering gear.
What are the hazards?
This condition could result in a loss of steering, increasing the risk of accident or injury.
What should owners do?
Dealers will inspect the intermediate steering shaft weld and replace the shaft if the weld fails the inspection.
Ford will write to owners of all affected vehicles.
Owners are advised to contact their Ford authorised Dealership for inspection and rectification.

The Ford Ranger was also recalled in December after a possible exhaust system issue was identified.
