Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles boom again in May

Sales up 12.7% across the globe with Crafter leading the way

The new-generation Volkswagen Crafter is proving one of the most successful new model launches in Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle history.

In what was a similar result in April, the full-size van has helped the German manufacturer to a hefty 12.7% increase in global commercial vehicle sales in May 2018.

In total, 48,600 Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles were handed over to customers in the month.

Some of the best-performing markets for the division included Western and Eastern Europe, along with South America.

Crafter sales were up more than 40% on the same month last year.

Here in Australia, where the new Crafter is about to launch, Volkswagen delivered 1,564 commercial vehicles in total in the month, including:

  • Volkswagen Amarok 4X2 – 26 (-36.6%)
  • Volkswagen Amarok 4X4 – 883 (+23.8%)
  • Volkswagen Caddy Van – 262 (+24.2%)
  • Volkswagen Crafter – 53 (-8.6%)
  • Volkswagen Multivan – 112 (+9.8%)
  • Volkswagen Transporter – 228 (+17.5%)

Those local sales contributed to a near 8% increase in Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle sales in the Asia-Pacific in the month.

Back on the global stage, between January and the end of May, sales have jumped ahead 2.3 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle deliveries May 2018:

  • 22,300 vehicles from the T-model range (+20.9%)
  • 14,000 vehicles from the Caddy range (-4.5%)
  • 7,400 vehicles from the Amarok range (+13.3%)
  • 4,900 vehicles from the Crafter range (+40.3%)
